As an official photographer for the California Eagle and the Sentinel, Charles Williams took pictures that shaped the stories of the community beginning in the 1930s. During World War II he went with his Japanese wife, Yoshi Kuwahara, to an incarceration camp. After the war, Williams returned to work as a photographer of the African American community in Los Angeles covering the Civil Rights Movement, churches, politics, social activities, and celebrities. Photos in the collection also document the Civil Rights Movement, churches, politics, social activities, and celebrities.
