Abstract

The Cooperative Nursery School Movement of Southern California Oral History Project consists of eight interviews representing a cross-section of parents, teacher, and directors who were closely associated with the co-op nursery school movement beginning as early as 1947. These oral interviews document first-hand accounts of local developments and provide insight into the educational philosophies and practices that helped to shape its significance as a national movement.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Cooperative Nursery School Movement of Southern California Oral History Project Collection consists of eight interviews representing a cross-section of parents, teacher, and directors who were closely associated with the co-op nursery school movement beginning as early as 1947. These oral interviews document first-hand accounts of local developments and provide insight into the educational philosophies and practices that helped to shape its significance as a national movement.

The project was conducted by Rose Selesnick, then Director of the Crestwood Hills Co-op Nursery School in Los Angeles, California, and a Masters Degree candidate at California State University, Northridge. The interviews were conducted in the homes of the interviewees in the Spring of 1976.

The collection is divided into two series, Audio Recordings (1976) and Transcriptions (1976). Interviews are recorded onto 7 inch reel-to-reel tapes. Transcriptions of the oral histories are bound in a single volume.
