Biographical Note

Joseph Gordon Brosmer was born in Norwich, Chenango County, New York on October 17, 1918 to parents, Leon and Helen. Brosmer spent his childhood in New York, then came west to California sometime after 1939.

Brosmer is best known for his work as manager of the Agricultural Labor Bureau and consultant to commercial growers in the state of California during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Brosmer appears on the scene in California’s Central Valley, the San Joaquin Valley, during the latter days of union activity by the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee, AFL (AWOC) and the emerging United Farm Workers Organizing Committee (UFWOC). Brosmer and the Agricultural Labor Bureau coordinated the response of California growers to the efforts of the unions to obtain collective bargaining agreements.

Brosmer passed away on July 19, 2008 at age 89, in Clovis, California.
