Name: College of Health and Human Development

Historical Note: The College of Health and Human Development first began as the School of Communication and Professional Studies (CAPS), which was established in 1973, shortly after San Fernando Valley State College became California State University, Northridge. CAPS department included Communicative Disorders, Health Science, Home Economics, Journalism, Physical Education, Radio-Television-Film, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Speech Communication, and Child Development. The school was renamed the School of Communication, Health and Human Services in the early 1990s. In 1996, the school was reorganized and renamed the College of Health and Human Development, consisting of six departments: Child Development, Communicative Disorders, Family Environmental Sciences, Health Science, Kinesiology, and Leisure Studies and Recreation. The departments of Journalism, Speech Communication and Radio-TV-Film were moved to the new College of Arts, Media, and Communication.
