Name: College of Humanities


Historical Note: The College of Humanities began at San Fernando Valley State College as the School of Letters and Science. In 1972, when California State University, Northridge was established, the School of Letters and Science was split and the School of Humanities was born. The school was renamed the College of Humanities sometime in the 1990s. It encompasses nine departments and six interdisciplinary programs including Philosophy, English, Modern and Classical Languages, one of the oldest and largest Chicana/o Studies Department in the United States and the only Central American Studies Department in the country.
