The records of the CAEYC document the establishment and development of the Association through correspondence, brochures, minutes, reports, and related printed materials. The collection consists primarily of CAEYC conference files. The collection also contains a considerable number of educational publications and printed materials. Two oversize scrapbooks contain photographs of CAEYC presidents, executive officers, and staff members. Additional records in the collection include president's files, executive board minutes, administrative files, committee photographs and proclamations. The collection is arranged in ten series: President's Files (1955-1985); Executive Board Minutes (1955-1985); Administrative Files (1955-1985); Committee Files (1953-1958); Conference Files (1956-1985); Records of the Historian (1956-1984); CAEYC Regional Records (1960-1961, 1983-1985); Publications (1942-1985); General Printed Matter (1932-1985); and Non-Manuscript Material.
Series I: President's Files (1955-1985) is comprised of the Association's presidential correspondence and reports. Also included are biographical statements, lists and related material for each of the presidents and board members. The files are arranged in chronological order by term in office.
Materials housed in Executive Board Minutes (1955-1985) reflect the interests and concerns of the Association through the minutes of the Executive board. The series also contains board membership lists, synopses of meetings, proposals and notices. The files are arranged in chronological order.
Series III: Administrative Files (1955-1985) contains organizational and housekeeping records, by-laws and constitutional standing rules of the Association. Also included are lists of membership, board members and committees. Financial and committee reports, board reports and related organizational records found in this series reveal the administrative working of CAEYC. The files are arranged in alphabetical order.
Series IV: Committee Files (1953-1985) documents the concerns and objectives of CAEYC's various committee assignments through announcements, correspondence, guidelines and reports. Also included are committee listings and advertising memorabilia. Files are arranged alphabetically by name of committee.
Series V: Conference Files (1956-1985) includes correspondence, memoranda, newsletters, program handouts and reports which document conference attendance and issues. Also included in the series are records of hotel accommodations, expenses and conference registration. The files are arranged in chronological order and by host city.
The special activities, events and personalities of the Association are reflected in Records of the Historian (1956-1984). The series contains selected annual reports, correspondence, financial reports, member lists and newsletter excerpts. The series also contains presidential reports. Records are arranged in chronological order.
Series VII: CAEYC Regional Record (1960-1961) contains the Association's chapter records and section reports. Regional material also includes related correspondence, membership lists and archive's reports. Files are arranged in alphabetical order by region.
Series VIII: Publications (1942-1985) is further divided into three sub-series: CAEYC Publications contains newsletters of the Association; "Young Children," contains the published journal of the National Association for the Education of Young Children; and Non-CAEYC Publications contains booklets, bulletins, newsletters and pamphlets collected by the Association. CAEYC Publications and Young Children Journal are arranged in chronological order; Non-CAEYC Publications is arranged in alphabetical order by title.
Series IX: General Printed Matter (1932-1985) is a general reference file of printed items. The material is divided into six sub-series by publishing source: California State Department of Education, Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Office, Montessori (Teaching Aids), Santa Monica Unified School Districts, Work Projects Administration, and Other Printed Material.
Non-Manuscript Material includes cassette tapes of the 1985 CAEYC Conference, filmstrips, oversize materials, photographs, and other audio/visual materials.
