The Southern California Journalism Oral History Project Collection began in the mid-1970s at CSUN as an effort to obtain and preserve the day-to-day experiences of working journalists, particularly people who were not likely to write books about, or maintain extensive diaries or other records of their careers.
The collection is divided into three series: Audio Recordings (1978-1986), Transcripts (2011), and Photographs (1949-1977).
Series I, Audio Recordings, is divided into two subseries: Digital Files (1978-1986), and Audiocassettes.
Series II, Transcripts, consists of typed transcripts of every interview, with some folders containing related news articles as well.
Series III, Photographs, consists of photographs taken by two interviewees, and is divided by photographer into two subseries, Ralph Samuels (1960-circa 1969) and David F. Smith (1949-1977).
