Abstract
W.F. Clingman, a United States Coast Guard officer, kept this handwritten journal from September 22nd to October 3rd, 1945 while assisting in minesweeping operations in the Kii Channel (Kii Suido) in Japan after the end of World War II. In the journal, Clingman describes in detail his experiences in Japan, writing about the minesweeping process, the weather, his interactions with the local Japanese people, his observations of Japanese culture and the local scenery, literature, and his desires to return to the United States.
