Abstract

The Japanese-American internment camps during World War II were administered by the War Relocation Authority. Camp inmates independently wrote and distributed many of their own documents associated with the camp newspapers, camp stores, school publications, and other camp activities. This group of materials contains non-War Relocation Authority documents issued in the internment camps or that are related to the internment.

The Oviatt Library created this collection of materials for study and research.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Japanese-American Internment Camp Materials includes documents created at Japanese-American internment camps, administered by the War Relocation Authority (WRA) during World War II. Collection contents were independently written and distributed by inmates, and include information about camp newspapers, camp stores, school publications, and other camp activities. Documents may have been reviewed and censored by the WRA. Newspaper from outside the camps, which regularly reported on the camps and internment during and after the war, are also included.
