Abstract

Erik J. Koch was born in Denmark in 1895, and traveled to China in 1923 to work as a sea captain. The collection contains various documents belonging to Koch related to his time in China, including his Foreigners’ Resident Certificate, receipts and documents from various doctors in Shanghai, business cards, master’s certificates, and records related to his service on various ships. Also included is a certificate of competency for a wireless course offered by the Russian Mercantile Marine Association in Shanghai that was awarded to Koch’s son, also named Erik Koch.

Biographical Note

Erik J. Koch was born in Denmark in 1895, and traveled to China in 1923 to work as a sea captain. His son, also named Erik Koch, was born October 30, 1927.

The Erik J. Koch Collection contains various documents belonging to Koch related to his experience in China as a sea captain, including his Foreigners’ Resident Certificate, receipts and documents from various doctors in Shanghai, business cards, master’s certificates, and records related to his service on various ships.
