Los Angeles Assessor's Book
Scope and Contents
Dated 1854, this book was written and signed by the first elected Assessor of Los Angeles, Antonio Franco Coronel. Titled in English on its spine and Spanish on its title page (Duplicado del Libro de Avaluos), it consists of an alphabetical listing of land owners with a description and valuation of their real estate in Los Angeles County, including the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. Numerous ethnicities, including Spanish, French, German, and Mexican are represented wtihin its pages. Many prominent Los Angeles families are listed, including the Pico and Sepulveda families, as well as Eulogio de Celis.
