The Los Angeles School Library Association Collection documents eight decades of the organization's activities beginning shortly after its inception in 1914. Primarily consisting of meeting materials and correspondence, the collection covers many topics including: membership rosters, dues, and association expenditures; social events and guest lecturers; educational requirements for Los Angeles City Schools; relations with the Los Angeles school board, superintendent, and teachers; best practices for course instruction and school library operations; and professional concerns regarding school librarian classification, certification, training, and compensation. The collection also includes bulletins and publications from affiliated professional organizations such as the American Library Association and the California Teachers Association. The collection provides unique insight into the formation of the California School Library Association (CSLA). Of particular interest is a 1915 draft of the CSLA Constitution. The collection dates from 1915-1998 and is arranged chronologically. The box list follows the original order and file naming conventions set out by the Los Angeles School Library Association.
