Eliot and Hazel Wittenberg Collection
Scope and Contents
The Eliot and Hazel Wittenberg Collection includes a photograph album and souvenir embroidered handkerchief and fringed fabric items with dragon and floral designs. The photographs document Eliot Wittenberg's work as a control tower operator for the United States Army Airways Communications System in China at the close of World War II. Wittenberg's photographs were primarily taken in Pengshan and Sian, China, but some photographs were taken in Hsinching and Kunming. In addition to photographs of his time in China, there are also images of Bombay and Calcutta, India, the USS General J.R. Brooke, the Suez Canal, and Colombo, Ceylon [Sri Lanka].
