Scope and Contents
The records of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences consist of records created by the College and its academic departments. Records include those of the Office of the Dean as well as various departments within the college and has been organized into eight series: Office of the Dean (1970-2003), Africana Studies Department (1970-2000), Anthropology Department (1983-2003), Geography Department (1975-1997), History Department (1977-2007), Political Science Department 1997-1999), Psychology Department (1986-1989), and the Sociology Department (1978).
Series I, Office of the Dean, includes correspondence, annual reports of the college, enrollment reports, newsletters, and a report on internship opportunities available through the college.
Series II, Africana Studies Department, materials are predominantly from the 1990s and includes newsletters and event information.
Series III, Anthropology Department, materials are predominantly from the 1980s and includes event information and a 5-year program review.
Series IV, Geography Department, materials are predominantly from the 1990s and consists primarily of correspondence.
Series V, History Department, materials are predominantly from the 1990s and early 2000s and includes correspondence, fliers, brochures, meeting minutes, annual reports, department evaluations, news articles, and department newsletters.
Series VI, Political Science Department, consists of event fliers.
Series VII, Psychology Department, consists primarily of event fliers.
Series VIII, Sociology Department, consists of a single program file.

Historical Note:
The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences began at San Fernando Valley State College as the School of Letters and Science. In 1972, when California State University, Northridge was established, the School of Letters and Science was split into three different schools, with the Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology majors incorporated into the new School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The school was renamed the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences sometime in the 1990s.

Abstract

All represented departments contain limited material however the History department is particularly well represented. The collection includes information on academic minors and student activities, event fliers and programs, annual reports, and meeting minutes.
