Scope and Contents

The Meyer Auerbach Collection contains photographs, correspondence, invitations, paper currency, and memoranda related to Auerbach's time in China. Memoranda comment on the political situation in China post-World War II, while invitations document an aspect of American social life in China immediately following the War. Early photographs from the 1940s depict local scenes and Chinese political figures, including Communist Party of China leader Lu Dingyi. Later correspondence and photographs relate to Auerbach's publication The Conservative Illusion and his trip to China in the 1980s.

Biographical / Historical

Meyer Morton Auerbach was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on December 14, 1924. In 1946 after World War II he worked for the United States Strategic Services Unit intelligence agency in China. He later worked as a professor in the Political Science department at CSUN. Auerbach passed away in 2007.
