Lois M. Oliver World War II Correspondence Collection
Scope and Contents
The Lois M. Oliver World War II Correspondence Collection consists primarily of letters written to Lois from friends, family members, and other service members. They were written during the years 1935-1947 with most dating from 1941-1944 during World War II. The collection also contains a yearbook; some loose papers found in the yearbook including a special orders letter pertaining to military personnel location, a soldier’s individual pay record, and a monthly allowance information booklet; and a cardboard chocolate box. Significant correspondents include but are not limited to Roland Duggan, John Grabowski, Corporal B Singermann, E.C. Jones, Irene Joerg, Ken Bull Colson, Beryle M. Thompson, Alfred H. Sprague, and Lewis Rapport; some of which can be identified in the yearbook. The letters include details about daily life in the armed forces during World War II, inquiries about Lois’s sister and other family members, and discussions of love and relationships. A small amount of photographic prints are enclosed in some of the letters. The collection also includes a small amount of greeting cards and postcards. The yearbook includes a history of Perrin Field and the Army Air Forces prior to 1943.

Biographical / Historical
Lois Margaret “Peg” Oliver served in the 746th Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during World War II at Perrin Field in Sherman, Texas. Lois lived in New Hampshire and Vermont prior to and after her service in Texas. She also spent some time as a patient in Brooke General Hospital on Fort Sam Houston in Texas during 1944.
