E.R. Chumley World War II Diary

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: SC-ECH

Abstract

E.R. Chumley was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was aboard the USS Palawan. The diary documents Chumley’s locations and activities with chronological entries beginning when he was sworn into the Navy on December 3, 1943 and continuing until September 16, 1945. Near the end of the chronological entries there is a notation in different handwriting which states that Chumley died in Danville, Kentucky on May 23, 1959. Towards the middle of the diary Chumley recorded a military joke, and in the back he recorded some names and locations of people.
