Manuscript Cookbook
Abstract
The Manuscript Cookbook was written by an unknown individual from the Scranton, Pennsylvania area. The Cookbook consists of handwritten recipes, recipes clipped from newspapers, and several medicinal recipes contained in a small daily diary dated 1935. Clipped recipes are pasted in, with the exception of one loose recipe circa 1995. The medicinal recipes are primarily for arthritis and rheumatism. Recipes for food include ingredients and written instructions, and are arranged by type. Recipe sections include cakes, cookies, pickles/sauces/relish, and medicine. The Cookbook provides insight into 20th century home cooking and medicinal home remedies.
