China Marines mailed photographs, manuscripts, and newspaper clippings to Shovar with the intent that the materials be used in the publication of Scuttlebutt. It is unclear in the collection whether all materials were published. Materials primarily relate to the post-World War II period, but there are a small number of earlier photographs.
