Scope and Contents
The collection includes documentation of the sale of land from Henry Lindenbaum and his wife, Ray Lindenbaum, to the United States Government in 1942. The land was known as the Metropolitan Airport and was renamed Van Nuys Army Airfield after the sale. It was used during World War II. The documents include a survey and construction permit, an option for purchase of land, a notice of acceptance of option for purchase of land, and two pieces of correspondence confirming the purchase and payment.

Biographical / Historical
Henry Lindenbaum was the owner of Tract number 8, which sold to the U.S. Government in 1942. This land was part of the Metropolitan Airport which opened on December 17, 1928. The airport became the Van Nuys Army Airfield during World War II, in 1942 after the U.S. government purchased the airport and converted it into a military base during World War II. The name changed to the San Fernando Valley Airport in 1950, and Van Nuys Airport in 1957.
