The Gary Zarnow New Left Collection consists of pamphlets and newspapers by domestic and international leftist and progressive organizations. They address concerns in the United States, Asia, Africa, Central America, and Europe and are primarily focused on the critique of governments and the liberation of oppressed populations through a leftist perspective. Issues include police brutality and racism, political art, imperialism, and the Vietnam War. The publications are arranged alphabetically by name.

Biographical / Historical
Gary Zarnow attended CSUN in the late 1960s and early 1970s as both an undergraduate and graduate student of history. He also served in the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty, he returned to CSUN where he became active in Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He went on to be a public school teacher and union organizer. Gary began collecting the publications in this collection as a CSUN student and continued collecting books and pamphlets related to New Left causes throughout his professional career.
