Sloop Friendship with ship master Benjamin Harris was owned by Bartholomew Rand and traveling from Boston to the West Indies and back. Friendship was potentially carrying perishable goods such as bread, corn, hides and skins. Sloop Friendship was condemned at Bermuda. Schooner Lady Washington with ship master Eben Wheelwright was owned by Captain William Coombs and was traveling from Port-de-Paix to Newbury-Port or Boston.
