Scope and Contents

The Monnet Notebook is a 132-page handwritten notebook, "Amplification sur les quatre âges de la vie." It includes discourses, verbal portraits, and poems. On front flyleaf: "Note. Ce cahier l'extraits est de deux l'eritares: 1o. Trois quarts sout ecrits por le General Monnet ... mort ... en juin 1819. 2o. Un quart est ecrit par le Commandant Monnet ... fut fusillés à Mortagne, en avril ou mai 1793. Paris 27 juillet 1864." Louis Claude Monnet and Louis Marie Benjamin Monnet were brothers who fought in the Wars of the Vendée, a counter-revolutionary insurrection that took place during the French Revolution.

Biographical / Historical

Louis Claude Monnet was a general, notable for his failure to prevent the landing of the Walcheren expedition. His brother Louis Marie Benjamin was a commandant. They both fought in the the Wars of the Vendée.
