Scope and Contents
Photograph of Virginia Street, Van Nuys, California, taken on February 9, 1911 with railroad tracks, about six rail cars, two buildings, horse-drawn cart, oil drums, about six men at right, with an oil derrick in the background. The photograph is captioned, "Van Nuys Feb. 9. 1911." A second photograph of the same area, taken on December 16, 1911 includes buildings on both sides of the street decorated with American flags and bunting, railroad tracks at center, automobile at left, and crowds of people on both sides. The photograph is captioned, "Van Nuys Dec. 16. 1911. Note wonderful growth in 11 months." Each photograph is mounted on black paper. Virginia Street was renamed Sylvan Street in 1917.
