Foster H. Jenkins Voyage to San Francisco Journal
Scope and Contents
Manuscript journal by Foster H. Jenkins of a voyage from Boston to San Francisco aboard the barque Orion in 1849. On blue paper, with handwritten title, "Remarks on board Barque Orion H.C. Bunker on voyage to San Francisco." Bound in marbled boards with leather spine, by F.A. Thompson on February 1975. The journal begins on November 12, 1849 and ends on May 6, 1850. It includes notes on the last pages written at Holmes Hole (later named Vinyard Haven), Massachusetts, in 1864. The journal includes daily descriptions of the weather. The captain of the Orion was Henry C. Bunker, born in 1797.
