Louis Gerald DelFiandra China Marines Collection
Scope and Contents
The Louis Gerald DelFiandra China Marines Collection contains loose photographs, photograph albums, correspondence, and ephemera related to "Jerry" DelFiandra's United States Marines service in China post-World War II.
Photographs primarily document daily life for United States Marines in Tsingtao [Qingdao], with one photograph of Tientsin [Tianjin], and others taken in unnamed locations. Most of the photographs are in black and white, but there are a small number of color Kodachrome prints from 1948. Nearly all of the photographs have handwritten captions on the reverse, and many of DelFiandra's fellow servicemen are identified by name. Locations depicted include Tsingtao Harbor, street scenes, the Aquarium, and an unnamed temple. There are a number of photos of DelFiandra and fellow Marines playing in the Band.
There are also photographs from China Marines reunions in the last quarter of the 20th century and early 21st century, including events in Cleveland, New Orleans, and Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to photographs, there is correspondence, notes, and reminiscences shared among the China Marines community.
Other ephemera includes a Basic Field Manual on sketching, information on benefits for veterans, correspondence, and certificates. Materials related to Wen Te Girl's Middle School and Blind Industrial schools are about Marine Band benefit fundraising concerts.
Folders are arranged alphabetically by title.
