Mabel Haynes Collection
Mabel Haynes was born in Shanghai in 1918, and lived and worked in Shanghai and Hong Kong until 1949, when she and her husband fled from the new Communist regime. The collection consists of items collected by Haynes related to Shanghai and the Old China Hands experience, including correspondence, articles, and photographs.
Heart Mountain Incarceration Camp Collection
The Heart Mountain incarceration camp was established by the U.S. government’s War Relocation Authority (WRA) to incarcerate Japanese Americans during World War II. This collection brings together materials documenting the Heart Mountain incarceration camp including meeting minutes, camp laws, and correspondence.
H.L. Heartwell Collection
H.L. “Sea-biscuit” Heartwell served as a civilian attached to the United States Army Air Corps in China in the 1940s, and as a technician for the Chinese National Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (CNRRA) after the war. The collection contains items of clothing worn and collected by Heartwell during his time in China as well as four small wood carvings.
Julien Heimendinger Collection
Julien Heimendinger was a Renault salesman, with exclusive contracts to sell Renault vehicles in Shanghai in the 1930s. The collection consists of exclusivity contracts from 1934-1936 between Heimendinger and Renault, a letter from Renault offering discounts on certain Renault vehicles, and photographs of Heimendinger, Renault cars, and service stations in Shanghai.
Dorothea "Granny" Heitz Collection
Dorothea "Granny" Heitz enrolled at San Fernando Valley State College (now California State University, Northridge or CSUN) in the 1960s as a 53 year old student. In 1966 she formed a group called the Granny Girls, a spirit squad and unofficial ambassadors for the school; their goal, to promote a spirt of friendship and camaraderie. This collection consists entirely of Dorothea's Granny Girl uniform and the certificate of her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
Arpad Richard Hertzka Collection
Arpad Richard (A.R.) Hertzka was a businessman involved in paper importing, first in Thailand from the early 1900s to the late 1910s, then in Shanghai from the early 1920s to 1949. The collection consists of loose photographs, photography books, and postcards collected by Hertzka depicting the scenery and people of Asia during the early 20th century.
