James went to China to work as a railroad civil engineer in 1915 for the Sims-Cary Engineering Company, based out of Peking. Abstract

Isidore Covitt lived in Shanghai during the 1930s, and was heavily involved in the Jewish community in the city. The collection contains two photographs from the early 1930s, consisting of a large group portrait of the Jewish Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in Shanghai, as well as a group picture of the troop leaders with Isidore Covitt and other prominent Jewish community members.
